A high school in Vermont on Thursday marked the beginning of Black History Month by raising a Black Lives Matter flag.
Montpelier High School is the first high school in the country to do so, WPTZ confirms.
The event took place Thursday morning in front of students from across the school district, faculty, and community members.
The student group Racial Justice Alliance initially began the effort, and the school board unanimously voted in favor of it.
The school’s principal said the move has substantial support yet is not without backlash as well.
